Well yes it was supposed to be a monthly blog - but....
Gone are the days, when as an artist all you really needed to do was to paint to be able earn a reasonable income. Now my professional practice is composed of 80% other stuff like : photographing artworks, electronic competition entries, maintaining my web, facebook, instagram & Linkedin accounts, seeking advice and learning about PR & marketing, networking just to name the important bits. Then add to all that keeping ahead of chores for a 2 acre block and family life. Maybe I should base a series of paintings on the issues that get in my way of painting! 2019 is shaping up to busy, two group exhibitions planned, possibly a market in April. I will be continuing to develop my Journey Series, a few pieces based on the Bibbulmun Track and the highlight being July 2019 I will be celebrating my 20th arty year as the The Artful Flowe. Merry Christmas Arty peoples.

Endeavouring to be a fulltime working artist has many challenges whether its finding inspiration to simply finding time!
My intentions of posting a blog at least once a month flew out the windows 6 weeks ago, a few things did get in the way like coordinating /curating a fortnight long exhibition in Kalgoorlie, attending first ever Perth Art Market, painting for Melville Art Award, Army Art Exhibition, City of Kalgoorlie Art Prize, packing 3 pieces for their interstate homes, creating "Khloe K" for Guide Dogs WA PUPART, and transforming a violin into "Sweet Music" We had a quick visit to the South West Art Trail over the just gone long weekend, bought a few special handmade creations and was encouraged to get right back at it! Planning is well underway for a group exhibition for April 2019 but please don’t forget that I have “Sign of the Times” available to purchase at Perth Royal Show until Sat 29th Sept, (online at https://www.perthroyalshow.com.au/perth-royal-art-prize) and you can always drop in a vote for Peoples Choice too! Looking towards my upcoming trip back to the Goldfields next week has me reflecting about my move from Perth to "Kal" many decades ago.
With August having a major group exhibition in Kalgoorlie AFFINITY, two fundraisers GUIDE DOGS WA PUP ART, several large community exhibitions ARMY ART / HALE SCHOOL along with a few competitions CITY OF MELVILLE / CITY OF KALGOORLIE and dont forget PERTH UPMARKET has seen me almost living in my studio, with family, animals & housework neglected (dont really mind about the last one)
The good news are all the enticing new works - some in the figurative style, some soft focus and others onto upcycled fence palings, the number has not been tallied yet but guessing about 20. More info & pics can be found on my facebook & instagram pages @artfulflowe or you can select one of the images below and be directed to the event sites... Where has the time gone? I seem to be paddling upstream.... (a bout of the flu hasnt helped either) So to recap - no teaching for me in 2018, this is so I might better concentrate on my painting. and also to help with setting up of "not for profit" shop ARC artist retail collective - Armadale. And through ARC I have had the opportunity to participate with some small business workshops which in turn has highlighted a few areas that I need to address, especially planning... aarrgh ...so no break over silly season for me .....
